Gallato
When Mario Maccaferri designed the first D-Hole or ‘Grande Bouche’ instrument for Selmer in 1932 nobody could know that Selmer would become the most popular French guitar of all time. Selmer went on to produce the more popular oval hole or ‘Petite Bouche’ post-Maccaferri instrument in 1936 and this was the model that was used extensively by the legendary Django Reinhardt for his prolific Gypsy Jazz style. Less than 1000 of these wonderful instruments were produced by Selmer with production ending in 1952. Original Selmer guitars that have survived the decades demand astronomical prices and previously only Asian made copies, or costly reproductions have been available. Gallato Guitars of Paris are continuing in the tradition of great French Gypsy Jazz guitars with these authentic and high-quality instruments.
